As the first project in our All Access program, In Music We Trust is proud to introduce MUSI© Magazine. MUSI© has been developed in cooperation with the Education to Careers department of the Chicago Public Schools and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) to meet the mutual needs of the public schools and the music industry.

MUSI© Magazine has two primary functions:

  1. To introduce secondary school students and teachers to the many potential careers that exist within the music business
Although students are some of the most avid consumers of popular music, they are often completely unaware of the complex infrastructure that surrounds performing artists. MUSI© will take them through the daily routines of producers, managers, agents, record company personnel, publishers, et al. from all genres of music and levels of notoriety and show the students how those professionals found their way into the industry.

  2. To help students and teachers understand the issues that face the music industry, and the need for strong copyright laws
One of the biggest challenges facing the music business is a general lack of public understanding of the importance of intellectual property laws, as well as a dearth of respect for the copyrights that are the cornerstones of the industry. MUSI© will personalize these issues for students by showing them how they can earn a living from music. By reaching out to students, All Access will help them realize that without copyright laws and the body of work they protect there can be no music industry for them to work in.

In Music We Trust will produce a series of four issues of MUSI© Magazine that will be delivered to the schools for inclusion in music classes. The magazine will explore a variety of areas in the music business. Click here to view a general outline of the magazine's content.

As a supplement to the magazine we will make workbook-style lesson exercises available on the In Music We Trust website using “Music, Money & Success,” a detailed music industry guide co-authored by Todd and Jeffrey Brabec as the lesson guide. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in field trips, independent study and supplemental reading, as well as potential internships in various music-related fields.

All Access will be introduced into the secondary schools of Chicago Public School system in the 2002-2003 school year. Vast potential exists for expansion into:

  • Suburban school systems and private schools in the Chicago area
  • Other cities and school systems across the United States
  • After school programs in YMCAs
  • Boys/Girls Clubs
